About Face is a fun and interactive workshop series created exclusively for Canadian  Armed Forces members, families and Veterans. And because of your amazing support, it is offered completely for free! It’s a way of using the arts to reach out and inspire creative expression, storytelling and, ultimately, healing.

Right now, we are exploring the connection between storytelling and Shakespeare. When you think about it, a number of Shakespeare’s plays that seem to be about the military are actually about families. In these plays, the military is the backdrop, but the story is about families.

There are people in my family and in my circle who have been in the military, giving their life to service. And I have a passion for helping military members transition back to society. I believe the arts can play a vital role.

I performed Hamlet a week after my Dad passed away—a play about fathers and sons. It gave me peace to sit with Shakespeare’s words. There is solitude and safety when you engage with art. I know the feeling of craving to get outside yourself and outside your own skin. That’s what art can do. Our idea was to offer tools from mindfulness to stand-up comedy to Shakespeare and ask: what do you want to express or explore? When you face down times, moments of challenge, how can you grab something that helps?

Our story so far has been incredible. But, “the past is prologue”. There is so much more to our story!donate now
