Valcartier MFRC

Valcartier MFRC is one of the recipients of the 2021 Bell True Patriot Love Fund. Below they’ve answered some questions to help us learn a little more about their program, what they hope to achieve, and what they aim to do with the funding provided.

1. Tell me a little bit about your organization and its mission.

The Valcartier Military Family Resource Center (MFRC) is a specialized non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life of military families and Veterans in Eastern Quebec. The center offers support services for parents, children and adolescents, preparation for absences and moves, employment assistance, and interventions.

2. Can you describe your program in 3-4 sentences, including outlined objectives the program aims to achieve?

The funding received from the Bell True Patriot Love Fund will make it possible to improve the  services we offer in support of the mental and physical health of the military and Veteran families in the territories we serve.

A first component – Will allow us to continue the development of MindBeacon services by expanding our offer, in particular through real-time video psychotherapy sessions, therefore not only digital therapy.

A second component – will allow us to add a complement to the telemedicine service, and experiment with Bonjour Santé by offering appointments to health services, including family doctors and medical specialists.

3. What is the desired outcome of your program and its impact on the Veteran and military community?

Access to physical and mental health services is an important issue for the military and Veteran community, particularly for those living in the province of Quebec. At a time where the pandemic has also had a negative impact on health, we want to expand and improve the services we offer thanks to the Bell True Patriot Love Fund and better support families in the military and Veteran community. Our clientele is spread over a large territory. The objective is to offer greater diversity of services to the most remote regions.

We also aim to expand and improve the services offered for virtual mental health (MindBeacon), and expand and improve access to provincial health care, family physician and specialist services (Hello Health).

4. What does this grant from the Bell True Patriot Love Fund mean to you?

The grant has been a major support in our efforts to offer mental and physical health support to the military community in Quebec. It has also aided us in experimenting with new services and continued innovation.
