Watch Sgt (Ret’d) Tim Wedesweiler’s story of service in and out of uniform
Marked on the first Sunday of every June, Canadian Armed Forces Day celebrates the contributions of Canadian military personnel, past and present.
Whether it’s providing humanitarian aid during natural disasters, supporting NATO efforts in Europe, international peacekeeping, maritime security operations, and other roles, our military represents Canada’s commitment to making a positive impact in the world.
On May 31, 2002, the then Prime Minister Jean Chrétien issued a statement that the first Sunday in June would be recognized as Canadian Forces Day:
The Canadian Forces make a significant contribution to the stability and security of Canada and the world…
Within Canada… the contribution of the Canadian Forces has been remarkable, whether in protecting Canada’s sovereignty and interests or in the fields of research and development, disaster relief, search and rescue and coastal and air surveillance.
Both at home and abroad, members of the Canadian Forces are working tirelessly to build a better world. And for that, Canadians wish to express their infinite gratitude to the members of our Canadian Forces, as well as admiration toward their families for the sacrifices they make every day.
Watch how, thanks to your support, service members get the support they need to return to civilian life and a new career.
