Little People, Big Emotions: Emotional Intelligence for Children
In response to the growing need for support for children from military families, social workers from the New Brunswick Military Family Resource Centre (MFRC) developed the Little People, Big Emotions course. Thanks to True Patriot Love’s funding, this nine week program for children aged 5-12 years old will focus on providing children with the skills to be aware of their own body and feelings and express themselves in a healthy way.
The course will be the foundation for further exploration of family therapy and individual trauma processing.

Parenting the Child with Oppositional Defiant Disorder
Funds from True Patriot Love will allow the New Brunswick MFRC to host this 13-week program, which will be offered twice a year for parents with a child with oppositional defiant disorder.
The program focuses on parenting behaviours and will improve participants’ knowledge, reduce stress and enhance family relationships.
Program location: New Brunswick
Funding received from Bell True Patriot Love has been a game changer in terms of the NBMFRC’s ability to deliver much needed programs to military families living in New Brunswick. Specifically, these funds are used to support children of military families who are diagnosed with Oppositional Defiant Disorder, which is defined by a pattern of hostile disobedient and defiant behaviors directed at adults.
The key to supporting these children is to establish services when they are young. The funding from Bell TPL has enabled our Mental Health Team to deliver this programming in a healthy and timely manner, giving parents reassurance and support.
