Vancouver, BC, May, 31, 2016 – Veterans Transition Network (VTN) is delighted to receive a $25,000 grant from the Bell True Patriot Love Fund, which provides dedicated support to transitioning Veterans and for the expansion of the evidence based program into Ontario and Quebec.

Grown out of the University of British Columbia and based on over 15 years of evidence-based research, Veterans Transition Network is a unique program that addresses transition and mental health through week-long workshops and group therapy for Veterans.

“This generous support from True Patriot Love and Bell not only allows us to deliver programming that will help Canadian Forces Veterans in Ontario make the transition back to civilian life, but also to continue the training of local psychologists in both Ontario and Quebec,” said Oliver Thorne, National Operations Director at VTN. “This helps to ensure that the delivery of our programs in these provinces is sustainable and that in future we will be able to help even more of Canada’s Veterans navigate their transition to civilian life.”

The program is supervised by trained clinicians and psychologists and has earned national recognition and respect for its results and clear benefits: All of the nearly 400 participants who graduated have shown significant reductions in depression and traumatic stress, and an increase in self-esteem.

“Bell Let’s Talk is proud to support Canadian Armed Forces members and Veterans who are living with mental health issues with this donation to the Veterans Transition Network from the Bell True Patriot Love Fund,” said Mary Deacon, Chair of Bell Let’s Talk. “Programs like VTN are making a real difference in the lives of people who have given so much to their country, providing them with increased access to mental health programs in the communities where they live.”

Launched in 2013, the Bell True Patriot Love Fund is a $1 million program, providing grants from $5,000 up to $25,000 to community mental health initiatives for Canadian military families, Veterans and serving members. Since its launch, the fund has provided 48 grants to programs delivered through MFRCs and other charities that work to improve access to mental health care in military communities across Canada. The 2016 Bell True Patriot Love Fund will launch in June and applications will be accepted online at

About Veterans Transition Network

Since its inception, the Veterans Transition Program has maintained the belief that soldiers are best served by other soldiers. The researchers found that many of the Veterans they worked with were reluctant to participate in programs or access resources that were provided by the government or military, for fear that their information would not be kept confidential. Many Veterans fear the consequences an operational-stress injury could have on their military record and future career prospects. To date, the Veterans Transition program has helped over 600 veterans in six provinces, and continues to grow. To learn more, visit
