Strongest Families Institute receives $25,000 from the Bell True Patriot Love Fund to support Canadian Armed Forces members, veterans and their families
Halifax, NS, April 7, 2016 – Strongest Families Institute (SFI) is pleased to receive a $25,000 grant from the Bell True Patriot Love Fund to support the expansion of services for military families in Atlantic Canada.
The programs offered to military families include assistance for children with anxiety or behavioural issues. The SFI programs are customized to address the unique transitions and challenges that military and Veterans’ families face and are made available to families where they live. Program coaches work directly with the families through evidence-based telephone scripts and are trained to guide the conversation to find solutions for the unique needs of each family.
“Our programs have successfully helped military families through challenging transitions such as deployments and reintegration, training requirements, and frequent postings,” said Dr. Patricia Lingley-Pottie, President and Chief Executive Officer, Strongest Families Institute. “Coaches customize care to meet the needs of military families to help them learn skills to better manage the unique challenges of military life, regardless of geographic location. Addressing issues early and strengthening family relationships will improve overall quality of life and well-being of military children, youth and families. Receiving the Bell True Patriot Love funding will allow us to help more families.”
Based in Halifax, Strongest Families Institute is focused on ensuring that health care and mental health services are accessible to everyone. SFI leverages research, technology and highly skilled staff to deliver evidence-based programs to children and families for mild to moderate mental health issues and other issues affecting health and well-being. The Bell True Patriot Love Fund grant will support the expansion of the program in Atlantic Canada, benefiting military families located in Halifax and surrounding areas.
“Bell Let’s Talk is proud to support Strongest Families Institute with a grant from the Bell True Patriot Love Fund,” said Mary Deacon, Chair of Bell Let’s Talk. “Providing military and veterans’ families with access to services to improve child and family mental health and well-being in the communities where they live, will make a real difference in their lives.”
Launched in 2013, the Bell True Patriot Love Fund is a $1 million program providing grants from $5,000 up to $25,000 to community mental health initiatives for Canadian military families, Veterans and serving members. Since its launch, the fund has provided 32 grants to programs delivered through MFRCs and other charities that work to improve access to mental health care in military communities across Canada.
