Annual Educational Tour – Holland 2020
Leadership Under Fire Tour: Liberation of Holland
Saturday, May 2, 2020 – Sunday, May 10, 2020
Where will you be to honour the courage, dedication, sacrifice and triumphs of the Canadian military in the liberation of Holland as the world marks the 75th anniversary of the end of the Second World War?
Seventy-five years ago during WWII, the First Canadian Army embarked on a challenging, yet critical, mission to stand up for the rights and freedoms of those oppressed by the Nazi regime and fought valiantly to liberate Holland. This defining moment in history was marked by the resolve and heroism of Canada’s military, and is a demonstration of leadership under fire – the power of strong command under the most difficult of circumstances.
Join True Patriot Love Foundation in May 2020 as we travel to The Netherlands to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the end of WWII and the liberation of Holland. This educational tour will be like no other as we follow along the paths carved by the brave Canadian troops 75 years prior during this key milestone in world history.
The tour will bring participants to critical battlegrounds and memorials that honour the service and sacrifice of members of Canada’s military and will shine a light on their tremendous courage, resilience and leadership during the largest and most devastating war in human history. Participants will learn about the parallels between the challenges faced by those who served then and those who serve Canada today, and will gain insight into key leadership lessons that can be applied to present-day. The nine-day journey will culminate in participants attending the opening ceremonies of the 2020 Invictus Games in The Hague, where Canada will once again stand tall as ill and injured serving members and Veterans come together through the power of sport to represent Team Canada.
The tour will be hosted by former Chief of the Defence staff for the Canadian Armed Forces, General (retired) Rick Hillier, with historical direction from Dr. Eric McGeer, historian and author. Included among his publications are studies of the commemoration of Canada’s fallen, guidebooks to the Canadian battlefields in Italy, and a history of the University of Toronto Contingent of the Canadian Officers.

“Participate, along with the Dutch, in the ceremonies of liberation and get emotional with us as the mournful sound of bagpipes drifts across the meticulously maintained cemeteries where almost 8,000 of Canada’s sons rest for eternity. Stand in the footsteps of leaders and work through their incredibly difficult decisions under the most brutal circumstances. Join in the opening ceremonies of the Invictus Games, where wounded and injured veterans inspire through sports. Meet our present-day veterans, hear their stories and cheer their arrival into the arena of competition and be proud to say ‘I am Canadian.”
